I set a bird feeder on my rear deck,
Hoping to make many birdie friends.
I looked out every day, yet spotted none
But I didn’t give up! I believed one would come.
As I got lonelier during the lockdown months,
I pondered a lot upon life and friendship.
It would be nice to have family, friends, and neighbors,
But all were stuck in quarantine, so I saw no one.
Video and phone calls are there, but they keep us separate.
It is so hard; I would say when I miss the embrace.
These birds are my last hope for a real bond,
Times are tough; what else can be done?
Friendships we can build with any living thing,
As long as it can comfort and give one peace.
Optimism has taught me consistency and patience,
As I am waiting at the window for my birdie bestie to come!
